Universe is doughnut shaped?

I've always wondered - if the universe is expanding - just exactly what it is expanding into. What's on the other side? Are we expanding into another universe that is contracting? Are there multiple universes that are expanding and contracting at various stages?

This story doesn't answer that question but it does offer a new perspective on our little home in the Cosmos.
"The idea that the universe is finite and relatively small, rather than infinitely large, first became popular in 2003, when cosmologists noticed unexpected patterns in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) – the relic radiation left behind by the Big Bang."

My question still remains.... If the universe is doughnut shaped what lies beyond the other side? Other universes?
