Platypus

This creature, considered one of the strangest mammals in the world, has become the latest to have its genetic code sequenced, revealing it to be a bizarre mix of mammal, bird and reptile, with very complex sexuality. For the complete story, go here.

Meanwhile, we've all heard of the 'myths' about unicorns, griffins, minotaurs and other strange creatures that were supposedly roaming the Earth back in prehistory. But perhaps they were real animals, the result of genetic experiments by our alien creators. And perhaps the platypus is a living reminder or relic of those ancient times.

Zecharia Sitchin and Lloyd Pye suggest in their writings that this is a distinct possibility.
